/02THE CHALLENGE

Moving off the legacy stack meant rebuilding the hardest logic, proving every number still reconciled, and handing the reports to the team for good.
The client ran its reporting on a legacy SAS setup and set aside budget to move it to Power BI, covering training for in-house engineers, recreation of selected reports, and new measures and functionality. The work went well beyond redrawing charts. Time-intelligence logic had to stay correct across daylight-saving transitions, every SAS query had to be rebuilt in Power Query and validated to the same result, and a chain of manual data handovers between reports had to go. The team also wanted to come out of the project able to run and extend the reports without leaning on outside help.

Reporting had to stay correct across winter and summer transitions, which meant precise date modeling and offset alignment across every dataset.

SAS rebuilt in Power Query

Each legacy query had to be reconstructed and validated so the new environment reproduced the old results to 100%, with full reproducibility.

Manual data handovers

Outputs were downloaded, copied, and stored by hand to feed other reports, slow work that invited error at every step.

We rebuilt one pilot report to best practice, trained the engineers on it as we went, then validated the hardest calculations and automated the handovers.
